Christian No More

Christ? I like your Christ. Christians? I do not like your Christians, for they are so unlike your Christ.” ~Ghandi
Please read this with an open mind. IF you do not have an open mind, see point 1.
Also note “Christian” is defined by the majority of the population that use that word to describe themselves. 50 years ago the word gay meant happy because that was for the most part what it was used for. Now it means something else. 50 years ago Christian may of meant follower of Christ for the most part, but can we say that today?
The above and the following are partially biased, and subject to change, please submit your comments.
10 reasons Christians suck.
- You must make sure to never have an open mind.
- You must pick only one doctrine and denomination and stick to it, because it is the only one.
- You must learn “Christianese” in order to gain respect.
- You must dress like a prep and shun anyone who does not express themselves that way.
- You must raise your hands if your are pentecostal, and save everyone if you are baptist.
- You must never reveal any of your screw ups, and cover your mouth and shun those who do.
- You must always smile, even if you are having a really bad day. Never ever show your life is as screwed up as everyone elses.
- You must say you will “pray for” anyone who actually has a problem, but make sure to never help them yourself or actually pray for them.
- You must talk about helping people all the time, and perhaps go on a mission trip over seas once in a while and brag about it from a mic, but do not rock the boat and actually do any real ministry in your own area. That does not look as good.
- You must make sure everyone knows about it when you “bless” someone else with any help.
For those of you that that offends… Great! You should be. Think about why you are, look outside your bubble and see while that there are exceptions to the above… it is generally true of the majority.
Now consider 10 reasons Jesus was awesome.
- Jesus was always kind and understanding, and heard people out.
- Jesus threw doctrine out the window and told us the only thing to really worry about was “loving others as ourselves”.
- Jesus spoke plainly and used things people could easily relate to in that time to explain himself.
- Jesus was homeless, probably never got a chance to shower much, and never said a word about looking a certain way
- Jesus never got involved in religion, and made a blunt mockery of silly religious traditions multiple times.
- Jesus defended the leper and the prostitute, and said he “came for the sick, not those that claim to be healthy”.
- Jesus as emotional, honest about pain, had compassion for everyone, and needed friends and companions to share his life with.
- Jesus always helped those in front of him where ever he was, instead of seeking out expensive crusades to remote areas and ignoring his home area.
- Jesus urged people he helped to keep it a secret and just enjoy the help, because it as for love, not his ego.
- Jesus never cared much about “stuff” and told us to “give to anyone who asks”.
How do you be a Christ Follower?
- Stop telling people about Jesus with words.
- Stop using the bible to try to prove the bible.
- Stop spouting scripture to people who don’t care.
- Stop inviting people to church, meet them where they are.
- Stop hanging out only with people that think exactly like you.
- Start finding battles YOU are scared to fight in your area, and fight them anyway.
- Start being honest and up front about your shortcomings with others.
- Start reading what Jesus was trying to say FOR YOURSELF, and stop trusting pastors to do it for you.
- Start finding stuff you do not need, and people who need it.
- Start rocking the boat at your local churchs, be blunt, and do not let anyone let your Jesus look like an idiot anymore.
Sound like too much work? Count the cost. Be the real thing, or go have fun. It is all or nothing.
Jesus was a rebel.
for points 6/7 on why Christians suck: John Rueben’s song “Freedom to Feel”
“Freedom to Feel” lyrics
I somehow overlooked that song. Thank you for sharing it. It certainly fits very well.
if you think that people who go on missions trips are hypocrites, youre going to want to avoid going to Trinity on the fifth of August, because thats when us kids who went on the D.R. and Mexico missions trips will be sharing xP
I am sorry if you got the impression I do not support such things. I do not deny it is a good learning experience, and it is good for people to get outside of their box and see how things are other places. I think that is awesome.
My fault is not at all on the kids who go and do such things. Thats cool. I however do find it frustrating when people have to drive to Orlando international airport… past the ghettos and all the homeless, to go overseas…when it seems like little to nothing is being done here, in our own city and country. There has to be a balance. We have so much that needs to be done in our own backyard and country.
In the end I suppose it is about passion. Some people have a burning passion in their hearts to go to other countries and live there full time and make a life commitment to helping those people, learning their language, etc.
Other people may just need to do it once or twice just for a reality check of how things are other places so they make an effort to support the people who do do it full time.
Having been to over 40 states myself, I know how bad the suffering is in our own country. I very much wish I had the opportunity to visit some other countries and learn more about the world i live in for myself as well.
I am avoiding trinity and most churches, and people in general right now for a plethora of reasons. One can only try so hard to fit in before they just give up. I am hurt and bitter and I will at least openly admit that.
Nothing is worse than having a passion no one else seems to care about. Or having a dream everyone tells you is worthless or crazy.
Life goes on.
If it is your dream then no one - NO ONE- has the right to tell you it is worthless. They can mock you, ridicule you- look at what Noah went through- but what they cannot do is force you to give up your dream. Only you can do that. Dont get discuraged. People mock what they do not understand. Dont get down on yourself and disheartened because they are not blessed with a heart that bleeds for the oppression and misery of others.
